State Solicitor General Barbara Underwood was tapped to serve as acting NY attorney general on Tuesday following the sudden resignation of Eric Schneiderman amid allegations of physical abuse against four women that surfaced on Monday.

Donald Trump Jr was quick to voice how pleased he was with the news of Eric Schneiderman's fall from grace on Monday night, with the First Son quickly posting a series of remarks on Twitter.

The Democrat had drawn rave reviews from liberals for his clashes with the Trump administration. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office says it is opening a criminal investigation and Long Island prosecutors say they are also investigating allegations of physical violence by Schneiderman, given some of the alleged abuse occurred in the Hamptons, in Suffolk County. In a written statement to the magazine, he said: "In the privacy of intimate relationships, I have engaged in role-playing and other consensual sexual activity".

Announcing last night that he would resign, effective end of work day today, Schneiderman strongly contested the claims, but said they made it impossible to continue as the state's leading law enforcement officer.

Ms Selvaratnam, who was born in Sri Lanka, said Mr Schneiderman started calling her his "brown slave" and made her say that she was "his property". Schneiderman also filed a lawsuit challenging the credibility of Trump University in 2013. Is he a crook? "Wait and see, worse than Spitzer or Weiner".

Multiple reports have pointed out the possibility of a conflict because Schneiderman had been directed by Gov. Cuomo to investigate how Vance's office handled its investigation of sexual assault allegations against disgraced Hollywood mogul Harvey Weinstein.

One woman, Manning Barrish, who alleged that Schneiderman repeatedly hit her and choked her, said that he once attempted to intimidate her by telling her "I am the law".

The fast, hard fall of the powerful is nothing new in NY. He was sentenced to prison and must register as a sex offender.

"It's sad to me that we continuously have people who stand up and say "I stand with you, I am for you" and yet turns their backs and live a very different life", said Randi Bregman, Executive Director, Vera House. In the meantime, the two most prominent politicians in NY took turns condemning their former ally. The New York Times reported that a wiretap caught Spitzer arranging to pay thousands of dollars to Emperor's Club VIP, an exclusive prostitution service. I lost my balance and fell backward onto the bed. That same year, Weiner placed fifth in the Democratic primary for mayor.

As a NY state senator, Schneiderman led the push to oust Hiram Monserrate, a fellow Democrat convicted of misdemeanor assault against his girlfriend.

The abuse often happened during what were supposed to be romantic encounters, but the women said the violence was not consensual.

"Unfortunately, Sen. Warren has a history of hesitating or refusing to stand up for women when the culprits are Democrats", Kingston said in the statement.
