Burlington School Board member comments on unscheduled April 1 meeting


Those allegations include the discussion of cutting the soccer program in executive session, improper notice on the agenda of March 12 of the appointment of a new school board member and the release of information discussed during executive session by a school board member.

At its April 10 meeting, the board took a closer look at projected revenues for the coming year and finalized plans for closing a budget gap that is estimated at $1.5 million, down from $3.3 million in February, before the district began identifying areas of savings. A variety of other school districts around the state have been trying out the "restart" flexibility option, but it would be new for Guilford County Schools. In light of the positive revenue outlook, Malone said he plans to meet with the chairmen of the district's Salary Committee to discuss possible salary increases as a step in preparing the district's 2018-19 budget.
