Prices of popular drinks may rise and the size of portions shrink as a result.

Ireland's sugar tax is expected to yield around €40m per year when it comes into effect, most likely from next month. With sugar content higher than 8 g per 100 ml will apply the increased interest rate of 24 pence per litre.
