Spurs' Leonard in NY for injury rehab

With the regular season winding down, no timetable has been set for a possible return to San Antonio.

Leonard is now in NY undergoing further evaluation and rehab on his quad, which has limited him to just nine games this season.

Led by LaMarcus Aldridge's best season with the team, San Antonio is now fourth in the tightly packed Western Conference.

The Spurs' medical staff has been in NY on both occasions to stay updated on his progress, according to ESPN. He spent time in NY before the February All-Star break. He returned for a nine-game stretch in December and January, averaging 16.2 points and 4.7 rebounds.

Also, veteran point guard Tony Parker, who returned from a more severe quadriceps injury suffered in last season's playoffs, also has made critical remarks. That is all but dead, especially now that he's reportedly returned to NY for rehab from non-Spurs doctors.

Get better soon, Kawhi!

The Spurs take on the Houston Rockets on Sunday. On occasions in the past month, Leonard has increased his workout load in preparation to return to the floor, only to step back and conclude he wasn't prepared to do so. "So when he and his group feel he's ready, then he'll be ready". "You've got to make an effort to still be around, and be part of the everyday topics; the good things and the bad things". A recent report by FanSided's Sir Charles in Charge said that the team might end up trading the former NBA Finals MVP to his hometown squad, the Los Angeles Lakers, this summer if head coach Gregg Popovich does not convince him to stay.

Two things stand out: 1) There is still no timetable for Leonard's return, and 2) It's a bit odd that Popovich, and presumably the Spurs organization, are not in constant communication regarding the health of their franchise superstar. "He's a nice guy. Sometimes he wants to rehab in the room, getting stronger; use the time wisely instead of watching us out there".
