SRINAGAR, Indian-controlled Kashmir, March 15 (Xinhua) - A gunfight between militants and Indian troops broke out Thursday in restive Indian-controlled Kashmir, police said.
An official said that the parts of the body were recovered from the encounter site in Balhama, and is believed to be a foreign militant. He was immediately hospitalized where his condition is said to be out of danger.
One of the policemen sustained bullet wounds in the incident while the militants managed to escape from the spot, reports added.
The two militants killed in an overnight gunfight with the government forces in Khonmoh area on the outskirts of Srinagar have been identified as Owais Ahmad of Tral and Shabir Ahmad of Aghanzipora.
DIG of central Kashmir, V K Virdi told New Indian Express that two militants were killed in an overnight encounter with security forces in Balhama-Khunmoh area. "He has been identified as Hamas - a FT (foreign terrorist)", a police spokesperson said. The gunfight between the two sides takes place intermittently across the region.
A police spokesman in a statement issued here said that the police started a sanitisation operation in which the area was to be cleared of any unexploded shells and mines after the encounter ended.
