Colts add to draft arsenal in swap with Jets

In order to so, the Gang Green gave up the No. 6 overall pick in the 2018 National Football League draft, No. 37 overall pick, No. 49 overall pick and the 2019 second-round pick to the Indianapolis Colts.

The move gives Indianapolis four picks in the top 50 this year - the team retains its own second-round pick at No. 36 overall - and seven in the first two rounds over the next two drafts.

NY also visited with Mayfield at the Senior Bowl and the scouting combine, and is expected to visit with him again for a pre-draft visit, per ESPN's Rich Cimini. After helping lead the Jets to the AFC championship game his first two seasons, Sanchez mostly struggled, and the likes of Greg McElroy, Geno Smith, Michael Vick, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Bryce Petty and McCown have all started games in the years since. In total, they now have nine selections in this year's draft, plus more ammo in 2019.

According to ESPN Stats & Information, it is the fourth time that the Jets have traded up to acquire a top-10 draft pick. It's worth noting that Maccagnan left the Jets' free-agency war room in recent days to attend the Rosen and Mayfield pro days. The Jets gave up a ton to just move up three spots.

The Colts are sending the #3 overall pick to the Jets and getting a massive haul in return. In the process, they boxed out the Buffalo Bills, who surely will be angling to move up for a quarterback.

Make no mistake, the blockbuster trade only reinforces Ballard's commitment to using the draft as the foundation for rebuilding the roster he inherited 14 months ago. Now, the ball is in New York's court.

Baker Mayfield and Josh Rosen are the two most polarizing quarterbacks in the draft. Especially the Browns, since they have two of the first four picks in this year's draft. When Chad Pennington is the closest thing you've got to one over the past 20 years, you know you have issues. But one of them will likely be available when the Jets pick.

With this deal, NY has a chance to find its new face of the franchise.
