Man charged in theft of Frances McDormand's Oscar

The critically acclaimed Darkest Hour received six Academy Award nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor in a Leading Role, Best Cinematography, Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling and Best Production Design.

Del Toro, 53, is known for making both mainstream action movies like Hellboy and offbeat dark fantasies like Pan's Labyrinth.

The latter is a odd love story about someone who falls for a fish. "I was broken. I would rather get eaten by a great white shark than go through that marriage again", Fiorentino told the U.K.'s Independent in February.

"A Fantastic Woman", Chile's groundbreaking story about a transgender woman, played by transgender actress Daniela Vega, won best foreign language film, and Mexican-inspired "Coco" was named best animated feature.

And Kobe Bryant, another first-time victor, took home the trophy for best animated short with Dear Basketball, a six-minute film based on a poem Bryant wrote in 2015 announcing his retirement from the NBA. Allison Janney's roles as an abusive mother in I, Tonya won her Best Actress in a Supporting Role.

After countless brilliant performances and a career spanning four decades, Gary Oldman went home with his first ever Oscar.

He concluded: "I would just like to salute Sir Winston Churchill who has been marvellous company in what can be described as a fantastic journey". Frances McDormand, a previous victor for her beloved Marge Gunderson of "Fargo" (1996) more than two decades ago, will not be deterred this year for her timely performance as the raging mother of a raped and murdered daughter, who takes on her town's police force and shames its macho male members.

"I say to my mother, thank you for your love and support".

"Mum, put the kettle on".

"After some brief time apart, Frances and her Oscar were happily reunited".

"I have two words to leave with you tonight, ladies and gentlemen: inclusion rider", she said referring to a need for a race and gender diversity clause in contracts.

Oldman's expressive and playing to the gallery style of acting has lent humour and energy to his Churchill, who the actor believes was facing a struggle of all sorts when he was sworn-in as the prime minister.

But his comparatively lackluster performance isn't the only reason Oldman shouldn't win the "Best Actor" Oscar - it's also his former misdeeds, which include alleged domestic abuse and defense of another actor's racist comments. It was his first Oscar after being nominated only once before - for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy in 2012.
