Yup, Kobe Bryant Is Now an Oscar Winner

Kobe Bryant Won an Oscar Sunday night for his part in the animated short "Dear Basketball", in one of the first examples of an American professional basketball player winning an Oscar.

Bryant collaborated with producer Gary Keane and legendary film score composer John Williams to make the five minute short based on the essay he wrote when he announced his retirement from the National Basketball Association.

Bryant stated, "As basketball players we're really supposed to shut up and dribble, but. we do a bit more than that". The petition was created in late January, and protests Bryant's Oscar over the accusation that he raped a nineteen-year-old girl in 2003.

'Dear Basketball, ' which recounts the tale of Bryant's journey from talented kid in Philadelphia to one of the game's brightest stars, beat Negative Space, Lou, Garden Party, and Revolting Rhymes to take home the Oscar. During this time, Bryant also helped the United States win gold medals in basketball at the 2008 and 2012 Summer Olympics. It was published on the Player's Tribune website and simultaneously announced his final National Basketball Association season.

Former NBA Laker Kobe Bryant is now an Oscar victor.

"Growing up as a kid, I dreamed of winning championships and working really hard to make that dream come true, but then to have something like this seemingly come out of left field", he added. The alleged victim used to work at the hotel Bryant was staying at ahead of his knee surgery.

"You don't have to sit in a tub of ice", Keane told Bryant backstage.

When Bryant ended his career in 2016, the LA Lakers retired the two jerseys he wore during his 20-year spell. Meanwhile, others noted Bryant's short acceptance speech. "Without you we wouldn't be here and to my wife Vanessa and to our daughters Natalia, Gianna and Bianka ... you are my inspiration".

Among those offering their congratulations via Twitter were Hall of Famers Magic Johnson, Bill Russell and Shaquille O'Neal, Bryant's former Lakers teammate, who admitted, "I'm jealous lol".
