Iran deal failure would be 'great loss': IAEA

"Our missile work line with our defensive policy, which poses no threat to any country", the secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council told Jean-Yves Le Drian, who is on a one-day trip to Tehran.

He also said no Iranian official had permission to "discuss this issue with foreigners", Tasnim reported.

He added that France seeks continuation of friendly ties with Iran.

The former Iranian defense minister also cautioned the European governments not to repeat the "strategic mistake" that the "bullying and racist president of the US" has made in dealing with Iran.

Europe should push the United States to adhere to its obligations under the 2015 nuclear agreement, said Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif on Monday in a meeting with visiting French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian in the capital Tehran.

Trump is concerned that parts of the deal start to expire from 2026 and that it fails to address Iran's missile programme, its regional activities or its human rights abuses.

Iran, the five permanent members of the UN Security Council - the U.S., UK, France, Russia, and China - Germany and the European Union struck the nuclear deal on July 14, 2015.

But the key focus has been the 120-day deadline set by Trump in January for United States lawmakers and European allies to "fix" the nuclear deal, removing "sunset clauses" that mean it expires in 2026 and reining in Iran's missile programme and regional activities.

Shamkhani added that all signatories, including the United States, must remain committed to the global nuclear agreement and it is not acceptable to ask one signatory to remain in the deal.

U.S. President Donald Trump has threatened to pull out unless three European signatories help "fix" the deal by forcing Iran to limit its sway in the Middle East and rein in its missile programme.

"The condition for negotiations on Iran's missiles is the destruction of America's and Europe's nuclear weapons and long-range missiles", Brigadier General Masoud Jazayeri told the official IRNA news agency.

As mentioned in the report, the IAEA has requested clarification from Iran about its plans to develop nuclear marine propulsion, Amano said, suggesting the IAEA has still not heard back from the Islamic Republic.

On the eve of the French foreign minister's visit to Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, held a phone conversation on Sunday. The Saddam army also gassed Iranian soldiers and civilians.

"As a multi-lateral deal which came to fruition through the joint efforts of several sides including the European states, the JCPOA has been prone to illogical and politically-motivated tricks of the U.S.", he said. The deal took effect in January 2016.
