A pair of well-designed, high-end headphones, with noise-canceling technology and Siri built-in, could be enough to convince Apple loyalists to drop yet more cash on the company. Like the AirPods and the new smart home speaker HomePod, Apple is aiming the unannounced headphones to be priced for the high end of the market. However, people familiar with the plans indicate that the company has faced development challenges that might push back the release.
Apple's AirPods earphones have been a surprise hit. Interestingly, Apple is looking to market the headphones under its own brand, capitalizing on the success of the Airpods, but at the same time competing with products from its Beats subsidiary.
Apple is reportedly working on headphones to rival its own Beats
Interestingly, the report says the headphones will bear the Apple logo. The company is allegedly manufacturing their first pair of high-end over-ear headphones, which will effectively provide further competition with brands like Bose and Beats By Dre, which they now own.
With the extremely popular AirPods and newly released HomePod, Apple has swiftly invaded the audio industry. However, given the strength of the Beats headphone name, the company will likely keep that brand while developing a different new one for the new headphones. Because Beats sell at a broader price range from $100 to $350, the new Apple headphones may not cannibalize Beats' margins, according to Bloomberg. AirPods have been tricky to assemble and use unusual design tricks, likely making them expensive to produce.
