Asus has a point.
And it's sad because these phones are packed full of the specs you might want, they feature some gimmicky-yet-kind-of-cool software features, beefed up audio goodies, and really, really nice price points. There is also a wide-angle lens that offers a 120-degree field of view enabling you to capture expanded landscapes and easier group shots in cramped up spaces. Dubbed AI Charging, the feature keeps the battery from charging to 100 percent overnight, in order to extend its longevity. We don't know how much the ZenFone 5 is supposed to cost either when it goes on sale in April, but the ZenFone 5Z is coming in June, fetching a very reasonable 479 Euro, presumably in an entry-level 4GB RAM/64GB ROM configuration.
Additionally, the camera includes AI-detection, allowing it to analyze a subject and optimize the camera settings to improve the picture.
The least of these devices has the most confusing name, as it were: Zenfone Max M1.
For maximum on-the-go stamina, the ZenFone 5Z has a 3300mAh battery with ASUS BoostMaster fast-charge technology. It's also surprisingly lightweight and comes with a USB Type-C port on the bottom. In spite of that, however, the Zenfone 5 isn't all that inconvenient to hold which is nice. The ZenFone 5Z also supports DTS Headphone:X™ for 7.1-channel virtual surround-sound over headphones, for a truly immersive experience when watching movies or playing games. That distinction goes to its heavy use of the term "AI", as an empty buzzword. The front and back are covered with curved glass, which has an nearly velvety coating, and you won't have to worry as much about getting your smartphone dirty with fingerprints, as this material is less susceptible to this than most glass smartphones. The company is also touting a Face Unlock feature.
By using the term "AI" as a stand-in for "smart", Asus empties it of any meaning. Additionally, the device can be used as a portable power bank to charge other devices as well.
We know it's confirmed for the United Kingdom, but we've yet to hear any news about Australia, the U.S. or any other markets.
Real-time Beautification: The ZenFone 5Z gives users their own personal beauty consultant in their pocket.
The ZenFone 5 Lite looks a lot like the ZenFone 5, sharing the same high-sheen finish and general appearance, but foregoes the notch on the front. "Thanks to the bezel-less display, the Zenfone 5 boasts a 90% screen-to-body ratio giving it the form factor of a 5.5" phone.
The ZenFone 5 Lite is all about photography.
In optics department, the ZenFone 5Z features a dual rear camera setup comprising of a 12MP f/1.8 aperture primary sensor and a secondary 8MP, 120-degree wide angle lens with f/2.2 aperture.
The new Zenfone 5 that Asus has launched today at the Mobile World Congress is nothing like its younger self. It does, however, stand out by having two selfie cameras (one of which has a 20-megapixel resolution), in addition to the two cameras on the back.
