Snapchat update adds GIF stickers and some design changes

A change that was reluctantly welcomed by some users while others started petitions to get the company to change the app back to the way it was prior to the update.

Still, the new app isn't going anywhere.

"With the release of the new Snapchat update, many users have found that it has not made the app easier to use, but has in fact made many features more hard", the petition reads.

Snapchat is launching a new library of animated stickers to place onto snaps in partnership with GIPHY in the latest update to the mobile app.

Snapchat says the tabs will come to iOS "soon", with an Android rollout to follow "in the coming weeks".

Outside of GIFs, the Snapchat app will soon feature dedicated tabs in the Discover and Friends sections.

Snapchat has finally responded to a petition asking for it to bring back its old design, after more than a million people signed it. Apparently, Snapchat's CEO and founder Evan Spiegel still believes that his company made the right choices concerning the recent redesign. Even the complaints we're seeing reinforce the philosophy. "We completely understand the new Snapchat has felt uncomfortable for many", the company wrote on, in response to the petition.

"We'd been thinking about the redesign for a really long time because we were frustrated that when you looked at the [app], both sides looked the same", Spiegel said. The new Friends page will adapt to you and get smarter over time, reflecting who you're most likely to be Snapping with at that moment.

As part of the update, you'll be able to sort through friends with active stories, group chats and subscriptions for publishers, creators, and the community in Discover. Snapchat had proudly announced this change late past year, and was hoping that the UI refresh will help it not only retain its users, but help it attract some new ones over. We are grateful for your enthusiasm and creativity.
