Bill Haas injured in fatal vehicle crash near Riviera

The six-time PGA champion is in Los Angeles to compete in the Genesis Open this week. While Bill escaped serious injuries and has been released from the hospital, he is understandably shaken up and - more importantly - his deepest condolences go out to the host family during this tragic and hard time.

Detective Jeff Fischer said that Haas was a passenger in a Ferrari that overturned at approximately 6:30 p.m. local time near the Riviera Country club, where the golfer was scheduled to play in the Genesis Open.

A third auto driven by actor Luke Wilson was "clipped" by the Ferrari, authorities said.

Details of the crash were updated on their website.

The Ferrari driver died at the scene of the crash.

Pro golfer, Bill Haas, was injured in a horrific vehicle crash on February 13.

AMERICAN GOLFER BILL Haas was released from hospital this morning after the Ferrari he was travelling in crashed, killing its 71-year-old driver.

Wilson, 46, wasn't seriously injured in the crash, KTLA reported. According to Fischer, that vehicle was being driven by actor Luke Wilson. He's the son of longtime PGA Tour pro Jay Haas, and has appeared on 3 Presidents Cup teams.

In a later report by the Golf Channel Bill's father, Jay, said that Bill had some bumps and bruises on his legs but no broken bones.

A 50-year-old who was in the BMW was taken to hospital along with Haas.

"Bill will withdraw from the Genesis Open and plans to head home to Greenville (South Carolina) to recover", the tour statement said.
