Police Officer and Man Killed in North Texas Shooting

The suspect was reportedly arrested after he surrendered just before midnight after a standoff with SWAT.

Brandon De McCall was charged with capital murder.

The officer was taken to an area hospital, but later died as a result of his injuries. His wife posted on Facebook Wednesday evening asking for thoughts and prayers for her husband and family.

A police officer has been fatally shot, another person is wounded and the suspect remains barricaded inside an apartment in suburban Dallas. A Texas Department of Public Safety helicopter hovered over the scene.

A Texas cop was shot dead on Wednesday night by a gunman who barricaded himself in an apartment complex in an ongoing standoff with police.

Dallas Police Association president Michael Mata posted photos of the damaged auto calling the shooter a "coward".

"It's a sad day for the Richardson Police Department", Spivey said. We're not doing well. But.this is a police department of professionals. "And yes it is an emotionally trying, tragic day but they're out there right now doing the things that they do best and serving this community", he said.

A second man shot, Rene Gamez, 30, died from his wounds. Richardson Police Chief Jimmy Spivey detailed the events that led to Sherrard's death during an early morning press conference.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott tweeted his sympathy, saying "The hearts and soul of Texas mourn" for the fallen officer. A GoFundMe page is created to help pay for his funeral expenses.
