The story follows Air Force pilot Carol whose DNA is fused with that of an alien in an accident, giving her super strength, energy projection and flight powers. She is considered the first Captain Marvel.

The Pasadena, Calif. -based actress, who graduated from Atholton High School in Columbia, will co-star alongside "Room" actress Brie Larson in the Anna Boden-Ryan Fleck-directed superhero flick.

We'll probably find out well before Captain Marvel's March 8, 2019 release date and the movie should begin production in February.

Thus, Monica Rambeau is particularly well situated to be introduced as a supporting character in Captain Marvel's new movie. Samuel L. Jackson, who has been in various films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is also in the cast alongside Jude Law.

She's fought alongside some of Marvel's greatest heroes and was a longtime member of the Avengers, eventually becoming their leader after being chosen by Avengers founder Janet Van Dyne.

DeWanda Wise is about to have it all. Their subsequent battle resulted in Danvers gaining her powers.

Now, if that's not starting 2018 with a bang, we don't know what is.

While it has not been confirmed who Mendelsohn will play, Marvel boss Kevin Feige recently teased that the shape-shifting alien group known as the Skrulls would feature in "Captain Marvel". Maybe that's a dream too far, but now Marvel have cast their first Black female co-lead so anything is possible...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wise is the latest of the casting news for the upcoming "Captain Marvel" film. Just excited to see DeWanda getting more big roles?
