Three Sears and 10 Kmart stores in Pennsylvania are among dozens set to close their doors this spring, but the retailers' locations in Berks County won't be among them.
In November, Sears announced that the city's other Kmart, on Henderson Drive, would be closing this month.
Macy's, Kmart and Sears stores are starting off the new year with more closures.
That will leave Sears with less than 940 operating locations.
Sears Holdings closed almost 400 Sears and Kmart locations in 2017, according to Business Insider. According to a press release, "eligible associates impacted by these store closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores".
The struggling chain said they aim to transform their business model so the physical store footprint and our digital capabilities "match the needs and preferences of our members". Company officials say liquidation sales could start as early as late next week.
