More Sears, KMart Stores Closing

Sears Holding said it is "right-sizing" the number and size of the stores in its inventory.

The Kmart store in Chehalis is on the April closure list. Liquidation sales of these stores will start as early as January 12.

The Sears store anchoring Orland Square Mall in Orland Park, and stores in Bourbonnais and Marion, and Kmart stores in West Frankfort, Mount Vernon and Rockford in IL are among the stores to be shut down. Sears Holdings said eligible employees will be given severance and a chance to apply for open jobs at other locations.

Sears Holdings announced the closure of more than 100 Sears and Kmart stores nationwide on Thursday.

No information is available on how many employees will be affected by the store closings.

The decline of Sears Holdings has been swift in recent years. But, they're also closing a store in Urbandale, Iowa.

Sears Holdings Corp (SHLD.O) said on Thursday it was shuttering 103 unprofitable Kmart and Sears stores as it continues to streamline operations amid mounting debt and a string of quarterly losses.

The lone Kmart in Colorado Springs is closing its doors in 2018.

The latest closings do not involve either of the Chattanooga Sears stores at Hamilton Place and Northgate malls or the remaining Kmart in Dalton, Ga.
