Bitter cold continues ahead of 'potent coastal' snow storm in MA

It's even cold in the Deep South, as temperatures plummeted early Tuesday to 14 (-10 Celsius) in Atlanta and 26 (-3 Celsius) as far south as New Orleans.

The National Weather Service on Sunday issued winter weather advisories in connection with the expected snowfall for parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York and other states.

Thursday, there's also a slight chance for snow in the morning, but the skies are expected to start clearing up.

The cold temperatures sweeping across northern United States cities saw forecasters warn of hypothermia and frostbite from arctic air settling in over central areas of the country and spreading east. Here, a traffic engineering employee clears snow from traffic lights.

The cold was blamed for the deaths of two men in separate incidents in Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Coastal areas in Georgia and SC will start to experience smaller amounts of snow, from as early as late Tuesday.

"We want every resident to have shelter and warmth", she said in a tweet.

There is the potential for minor to moderate coastal flooding along north-facing shorelines on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

We've now spent more than eight days with below freezing temperatures, including five days below zero. The average temperature was 48.3 degrees, according to the weather service.
