At least 12 people were injured early on Tuesday after a huge fire tore through an apartment building in NY, reports said. The cause of the fire is unknown. Most of the injuries appeared to be not life-threatening.
Firefighters broke windows to get residents out of the building as the fire continued to rage in the upper floors. At least 12 people were injured.
The fire left 11 families, including 29 adults and 11 children, homeless.
Fire officials say they responded to the blaze at a four-story building near the Bronx Zoo in Van Nest at about 5:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Five hours later, the fire crews were still fighting to control the blaze on the Bronx's Commonwealth Avenue. The fire started at a furniture store on the ground floor and quickly spread throughout the building.
"Praying for a swift recovery for all those injured", said Mayor Bill de Blasio on Twitter, thanking the fire department for its response.
That blaze started after a three-year-old boy was playing with a stove. That inferno killed 12 people, four of them children.
