The hotel said in a statement to the newspaper they have organized extra security for New Year's Eve.

USA police say they arrested him after the weapons were discovered at the Hyatt Regency in downton Houston in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man was arrested for unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing.

They also found other weapons in his pickup truck which has been towed away.

He called for back up, and when officers arrived, they searched the suspect's room, on the top floor of the hotel, and found a rifle, shotgun and handgun in his room, plus ammunition.

When attempts to subdue the man failed, the officer called for what's been described as urgent backup around 1:30 a.m. Investigators said the man was taken into custody at the hotel, where they found several weapons and ammunition in his room. When officers went through his backpack, they discovered over 3,000 doses of heroin, pills, Fentanyl patches, marijuana, more than $2,000, and two human teeth, which police later discovered belonged to him.

NBC reporter Jacob Rascon said on Twitter that the Hyatt Hotel had planned celebrations for Sunday night in honor of the 40th anniversary of Houston's New Year's Eve party and expected hundreds of guests to join.

The Hyatt's Sunday night celebration spans four floors and includes live performances and a 50,000 balloon drop at midnight, according to its website.
