The organization also says almost 500,000 workers earning slightly more than the minimum wage could also receive boosts in 2018 as employers adjust their pay rates.

Under a state constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2004, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity adjusts the wage each year based on changes in a federal consumer price index.

Of the 22 European Union member states with a minimum wage, only workers in Luxembourg (€1,999 per month) receive a higher monthly minimum wage than workers in Ireland, who take home €1,563 per month, according to the report, valid as of January 1, 2017.

The Cuomo administration estimated that more than 2.3 million workers will be helped by the increase in the wage, which had been $9.70 per hour. The minimum wage for employees of smaller businesses with fewer than 11 employees will be $12/hour.

Some of those states have laws requiring that the minimum wage is adjusted each year according to an inflation index, to rise with the cost of living.

For fast-food workers outside of New York City, the minimum wage will rise to $12.75 an hour on Dec. 31, 2018, $13.75 an hour on Dec. 31, 2019 and $14.50 an hour on Dec. 31, 2020. "Wages continue to increase in Chautauqua County because we're continuing to see economic development".

"The minimum wage increase, new paid family leave requirements and the state's proposed employee scheduling regulations are concerning to employers in the area", he said.

"The paid family leave requirements of New York State have taken money out of employee paychecks and have created scheduling challenges for employers in a time when finding employees is hard".
