Margot Robbie teased to MTV that she is working on a Harley Quinn project separate from David Ayers' Gotham City Sirens film, following an all-female anti-hero team that Harley leads including Poison Ivy and Catwoman, and the Harley and Joker spin-off that has been reported to be in the works.
The success of Patty Jenkins directorial Wonder Woman proved that audiences love well-made female centric superhero movies, and although Harley Quinn can not be called a superhero by any stretch of imagination, she is a strong female comic-book badass and with the praise Robbie got, it makes commercial sense to cash in on the success. But the way she says it here, all of these projects, including this mysterious solo take, are in various stages of development and any one of them could come out before the others - which, you have to think, would help determine anything that followed.
"Honestly, I don't think anyone knows what's going to be the next thing to happen, but I think everyone is keen to getting Harley back on screen so everyone is working on lots of different versions of what could be next".
MARGOT ROBBIE Developing Solo HARLEY QUINN Film
The plan for Gotham City Sirens is to do just that.
Robbie also says her Harley film will give the character some much-needed female friendships - a new squad, if you will.
Alright DCEU and Warner Bros., we need to have a little talk here. You see it in the comics, she loves meeting people. While she didn't spoil anything, Robbie did point out that everyone is excited to see Harley return. This was something that Robbie had pitched herself after considerable comic book research during Suicide Squad's production. Yeah, there's alot going on right now. It seems like it's best for Warner Bros.to flawless their craft instead of tacking on even more projects on their already-hefty plate.
