Five Dead After Elementary School Shooting in Northern California

The shootings happened at multiple locations in rural Northern California and it wasn't yet clear if the shooter was among the number of dead, the AP story said. The alleged shooter has also been killed by police.

A second child and a female adult were shot in a truck, authorities said.

About 100 law enforcement personnel are now working at least five crime scenes in the area, he said.

Sheriff Johnston declined to release the name of the shooter but said the gunfire began with a domestic violence incident that neighbours reported.

Mr Johnston says the gunman was "randomly picking targets".

Enloe Medical Centre spokeswoman Nicole Johansson said the hospital was treating four people this morning, including three minors. The kids who were at the school are in a safe location, Johnston said.

After the shooting, Johnston said police recovered a semi-automatic rifle and two handguns believed to be used by the shooter. The area is about 120 miles (190 km) north of Sacramento.

"The insane thing is that the neighbor has been shooting a lot of bullets lately, hundreds of rounds, large magazines", Flint said.

A witness named Tiffany, who operates Coffee Addiction Coffee Shop near the school, told KRCR News Channel 7 she heard 90-100 shots fired.
