Anti-vax mum's son immunised while she's jailed for defying court order

"It's been a rough few days to say the least", she added. She was released from the Oakland County jail early Monday.

"It was the worst five days of my life, except for the fact that I just found out that he was vaccinated and I'm not going to get him back today", Bredow said.

Rebecca Bredow, the MI anti-vax mother who was jailed because she refused to let her son receive vaccinations, was not happy to learn that her son received four immunizations this week.

Bredow shares custody of her son with her ex-husband James Horne.

"Never in a million years did I ever think that I would end up in jail standing up to try to protect my kids, and standing up for my beliefs", Bredow added.

7 Action News said Bredow and her ex-husband had agreed to vaccinate the child, but her views had since changed.

"I absolutely stand by my choices because I stand up for what I believe in", she told reporters, before being cut off by a man who appeared to be her lawyer. "He's nearly 10 years old, so he understands more than the court would say I'm allowed to explain to him", Bredow said.

Since the court initially ordered the immunization in 2016, Bredow has cited religious objections, reports the Detroit Free Press.

"If my child was forced to be vaccinated, I couldn't bring myself to do it", she said. In the intervening time, Bredow had physical custody, while Horne took charge of the boy on alternate weekends.

The recommendation will go into effect starting this weekend, but she has 21 days to appeal the Friend of the Court's decision.

"I understand you love your children".

Bredow and Horne split in 2008, before their son was born.
