Clues few and elusive for motive of Las Vegas gunman

Danley, who was twice married before her relationship with Paddock, became a focus of the investigation for having shared his retirement community condo in Mesquite, Nevada, northeast of Las Vegas, before leaving the United States for the Philippines in mid-September.

Lombardo said the death toll from the Sunday night assault on an open-air concert on the Vegas Strip had risen to 59, while 527 people had been injured.

She is considered a person of interest in the worst mass shooting in modern USA history that left 58 people dead and more than 500 wounded.

Officials said 23 weapons were found inside Stephen Paddock's Las Vegas suite, on top of the thousands of rounds of ammunition also found inside his home. Paddock was found dead in his Las Vegas hotel room on the 32nd floor.

The previous weekend, Paddock had rented a high-rise condo in a building that overlooked the Life is attractive alternative music festival featuring Chance the Rapper, Muse, Lorde and Blink-182, said Lombardo, who offered no other details about what led Paddock there.

Rabadi also said such tools are often used by sportsmen who want to modify their weapons for activities like target practice.

The motive for the shooting remains unclear, but police have said it was "obviously premeditated".

Danley arrived back in the USA late Tuesday night escorted by Federal Bureau of Investigation agents in Los Angeles.

Police "can't be at all places at all times", Lombardo said, so it's vital that when anybody sees anything suspicious, he or she should alert authorities.

Suarez said the NBI was looking into reports Danley arrived in the Philippines last month, and that Paddock had sent $100,000 to her via a wire transfer. "No one except Marilou", one of her sisters said.

Marilou Danley, who returned late on Tuesday from a family visit to the Philippines and is regarded by investigators as a "person of interest", said through a lawyer that the carnage Stephen Paddock unleashed while she was overseas caught her completely unaware.

"In that sense, I thank him for sparing my sister's life", she said, adding that Danley was "really in love with Steve".

She also said: "He never said anything to me or took any action that I was aware of that I understood in any way to be a warning that something awful like this was going to happen". A spokesman for the hotels tells the newspaper that it initiated the screenings early Monday when police didn't know if there were multiple shooters involved in Sunday night's attack.

About 22,000 people were in the crowd when Paddock fired his rifle from his room at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

While she was in the Philippines, Danley said, Paddock wired her money that he said was for her to buy a house for her and her family.

Before the Las Vegas attack, a man named Stephen Paddock booked rooms in a Chicago hotel that overlooked the site of the August Lollapalooza music festival, a spokeswoman for Chicago's Blackstone Hotel said in an e-mail.

She said she doesn't think Trump is a compassionate person.
