Orton plants Nakamura with RKO

SmackDown comes to us live in Little Rock, Arkansas tonight as the blue brand tonight deals with last week's fallout over the United States title. The show continued to follow up from the big "SummerSlam" PPV as various feuds continued and new ones begin towards the next PPV, "Hell in a Cell". He was interrupted by Shinsuke Nakamura, which brought out Rusev and Randy Orton.

Shinsuke Nakamura had defeated John Cena earlier to become the No.1 contender.

A well-timed distraction from The Singh Brothers allowed Mahal and Rusev to take over. They then offered and proceeded to kiss The Maharaja's "royal feet", at which time Shinsuke Nakamura's music hit. Randy Orton rushed to the ring to help, but Rusev also rushed out to fight Orton. WWE having the title on Jinder Mahal has resulted in a ripple down its roster that has SmackDown relatively out of whack. Benjamin returned to SmackDown, last week when a promo announced he would be Chad Gable's new tag team partner, but it's likely that he has a bigger part to play. The duo teamed up against The Ascension for their first match together. Viktor tags back in, as he lays the boots to Gable.

A jawbreaker gave way to a hot tag to The Viper, who exploded into the match with a flurry of offense. When Gable sends Konnor out of the ring, he sets Benjamin up to hit Viktor with the jumping reverse STO to pick up the victory in his return.

Also on Smackdown, United States Champion AJ Styles began his USA open challenge where he will give anyone a chance to face him for the title. He damn near cost AJ the title last week, so Styles will surely be looking for payback on tonight's show. Dillinger was able to recover and took out Corbin as he got on the apron to knock him down. However, Styles was able to make a strong comeback and defeat Dillinger with the Calf Crusher for the submission victory.

After the bell, Corbin yanks Dillinger out of the ring and slams him into the security barrier.

Bobby Roode made his SmackDown debut last week, pinning Aiden English. Roode pinned Kanellis in short order with a Glorious DDT.

Two veteran superstars return and what next for Kevin Owens?

Kevin Owens appointed Baron Corbin to be the special guest referee in last week's United States Championship rematch against AJ Styles, promising the Lone Wolf a future title shot should he be victorious. Owens accuses Shane of abusing his power and said that wouldn't happen on RAW. Aiden has a match with Sami Zayn.

Owens decides to enter the ring and take the shirt off of the referee to put on himself, showing everybody "how it's done". Owens then hits Zayn with a pop-up powerbomb. Big E and Kofi Kingston will have to represent the New Day for the time being, and this time, they face the Usos to see which team gets to pick the stipulation for their SmackDown Tag Team Championship rematch. After catching Kofi Kingston with a roll-up via a blind tag, the Usos were in a dominant position as they could decide on what kind of match they wanted to have in their title defense.
