Mark Wahlberg named 2017's highest-paid male actor with $68m

Wahlberg's starring roles in Transformers: The Last Knight and upcoming comedy Daddy's Home 2 helped the ex-rapper take the number one spot.

Mark Wahlberg topped the highest-paid actors list with a $68 million paycheck between June 2016 and 2017 while Emma Stone topped the other list with a competitively small $26 million.

His earnings in 2017 edged out Johnson, the former wrestler and Baywatch star, who earned $65 million, as well as Johnson's Fast and the Furious co-star Vin Diesel, who earned $54.5 million in 2017.

Forbes estimates earnings, before taxes and management fees, from movies, TV and commercial endorsements. Last week, the magazine named "La La Land" Oscar victor Emma Stone as the world's highest paid actress with an estimated 2017 take of $26 million. With a combined $488.5 million, the top 10 actors on Forbes' list far outranked the top 10 actresses, who earned $172.5 million total.

Forbes has said the popularity of superhero and action blockbusters is partly to blame, as such box office favourites tend to have fewer leading roles for women.

The Pirates Of The Caribbean star is now embroiled in a bitter lawsuit with his former business managers who have detailed what they describe as his lavish spending habits. Plus, according to Forbes, though he's no longer no. 1, Johnson's 2017 earnings are actually $500,000 more than his earnings a year ago.

Marky Mark isn't the only Bay Stater to make into onto Forbes' list, as Matt Damon cracked the top 20, coming in at No. 16. with $21 million.
