Injuries reported after tree falls in Central Park

The family were strolling along West Drive near West 62nd Street when witnesses say they heard the terrifying noise of the tree falling.

Amazingly, her children, who range in age from about 2 months to 4 years old, were shaken up but otherwise relatively unharmed. The Central Park Conservancy has not yet responded to a request for comment. The mother, however, was pinned under the fallen tree for about 10 minutes, going in and out of consciousness until she was transported to the hospital. The officers and volunteers helped to keep the woman still until the emergency squad could arrive.

One bystander told WABC that the children were alert and crying as police approached the scene. Jamie Brown, 42, of Virginia told the New York Post: 'You heard the tree fall. then you hear a baby scream'.

Russo said he saw the woman pushing a stroller prior to the incident.

"It started crackling, and it just fell, within seconds", witness Tammy Jones said.

The family was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medical Center, Dwyer said.

The fearless mother and all three of her boys were hospitalized immediately following the accident but are faring well. The children were all taken to the hospital and are listed in serious condition, but authorities said the injuries were mainly bumps and bruises and nothing too serious. The Central Park tree that fell on the mother and blocked a park roadway, CBS News reports.

The woman was trying to shield the kids when the tree knocked her in the head, according to the FDNY.

Jones and his wife - who are visiting the Big Apple with their kids - were jogging from the Central Park reservoir to their temporary apartment at 51st Street and Seventh Avenue when the tree crashed right in front of them.
