Soggy dogs ride the waves at the annual Dog Surfing Championships

The competitions are becoming popular beachside events.

Beginning the report in a flat tone "Now, you're watching BBC news, just bear in mind its August". Granted animal stories are a big part of television news, but McCoy clearly shows he's had enough.

He delivers lines like "This does not look like a walk in the park" and "the victor, of course, being crowned top dog" in a rather dry manner, and at one point you can hear him audibly sigh. The website describes the event as "the premier dog surfing event in Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area, from the historic team that conceived & pioneered the concept of dog surfing competitions!"

He then added, with an obvious lack of enthusiasm: 'Here are the pictures'.

The clip has been shared thousands of times and it's fair to say a lot of people are finding his style of reporting on the subject - and his many sighs - very amusing.

Obviously, there are awards for first, second and third place winners and surfing divisions of small, medium and large dogs, but other prizes are awarded for tandem dog surfing, ball fetching and doggie beach fashion.

"That's a shame, we've run out of pictures", said McCoy as he eventually labours to the end of the report.

One viewer commented: 'This has absolutely made my day'.
