Those Night's Watch cloaks are actually just beat-to-hell IKEA rugs

'I'm sadly not allowed to show you fitting photos. The furs worn by those men banished to the cold, neglected, Westerosi equivalent of a starter apartment are, in fact, just cheap IKEA rugs that have been properly ravaged, Quartz reports, picking up on a detail that was first relayed previous year in a talk by GOT costume designer Michele Clapton.

But that's not all: The store itself created an ad with a stack of gray blankets, labeling it a "game of throws", and one fan used a Swedish name generator to imagine IKEA furniture as character names.

In the world of Game of Thrones, winter is always on the horizon and Jon Snow and the Night's Watch must dress accordingly.

"These capes are actually Ikea rugs", Clapton confirmed. It's a bit of a truth. "We take anything we can", Clapton added with a chuckle as she described the process that goes into designing medieval garb.

"I want the audience to nearly smell the costumes", she explained.

She noted that they have to cut the carpets down, shave them back and add leather straps before breaking them down so they look worn in. The next time you visit IKEA, see if you can envision Jon Snow marching into battle with a Höjerup or Alhede wrapped around his shoulders.
