Authorities looking for 6-year-old Lakeland boy

The search for a 6-year-old Lakeland boy ended in tragedy Friday after he was found dead in a retention pond behind his home.

On Twitter, the Polk County Sheriff's Office posted the outcome of the ongoing search.

Anyone with information is asked to call law enforcement.

A missing-child alert for Adam Roach, a non-verbal special needs child, was issued at 10:30 p.m.

He was wearing a navy blue shirt with dinosaur print and navy shorts.

Roach is 4 feet, 3 inches tall and weighs approximately 37 pounds. Roach is missing his front tooth and has a scar on his chest and left side abdomen.

The Lakeland Ledger reported that Adam, who was hard of hearing and functioned on about an 18-month-old level, walked away from his home in the gated community.

Authorities are now investigating his death and PCSO said it appears to be accidental. A spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office says Roach is autistic and it is believe that he wandered off somewhere in the vicinity of the apartment complex.
