But I think this is the beginning of Spider-Man, in a way.
Spider-Man: Homecoming answers a lot of questions fans may have over the character's involvement in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but one question remains stubbornly open. In a way, it is an origin story - just not one we've seen before.
Picking up after Peter Parker/Spider-Man's show-stealing cameo in Captain America: Civil War, Homecoming finds the 15-year-old watching the clock in high school and waiting for a call from the Avengers to swing back into action. This means the movie is getting around 3 or 4 stars out of 5. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). But apparently, he's going to do quite a bit in those Avengers movies, because they lead directly into an upcoming Spider-Man film.
Fans watch as stars from the movie arrive at the world premiere of "Spider-Man: Homecoming" in Los Angeles, California, US, June 28, 2017. While Sony will keep all the profits for Homecoming, as well as its subsequent sequels, Marvel, on the other hand, will have creative license to use the character in a number of MCU films. So, why would Marvel agree to produce the movie for their rival studio then if they didn't get any share of the money it makes?
Rothman added, "What we learned from Marvel is they have deep in their DNA an understanding of how their many characters fit together".
"I know who the villain is, but that's it". Sequels are already planned and Spider-Man will be back for the Avengers sequels too.
"First, there is Spider-Man happily in the place where he's supposed to be, which is in the Marvel Universe".
The splashy premiere - which featured Spider-Man events up and down Hollywood Boulevard - comes at the most fascinating time in the superhero's 15-year big-screen history. Along with Robert Downey Jr. and what is sure to be an impressive performance from Michael Keaton as the Vulture, it's safe to say that Spider-Man: Homecoming's John Hughes-esque story will be a surefire hit for audiences.
