MonaLisa Perez, 19, was arrested Monday night after she fatally shot her boyfriend, 22-year-old Pedro Ruiz, in the chest while they were making a YouTube video at the couple's house in Norman County, not far from Fargo, North Dakota.
Ruiz's aunt says he gave a 50-caliber handgun to his girlfriend and insisted she shoot it at a book Pedro was holding, thinking it would stop the bullet.
'I wish they wouldn't have done it.
Celebrity: The couple hoped that the stunt would make them YouTube celebrities.
"He had told me about an idea". I said, 'Don't do it, don't do it. "He said, 'Because we want more viewers'".
Perez, who is pregnant with the couple's second child, has been charged with second-degree manslaughter. She's now in police custody and was schedule to appear in court today (June 28) for a manslaughter charged.
"The fact that she has got to live with this for the rest of her life, that alone, is a charge to me", the aunt continued, adding that the child, a boy, would be named after his father. Instead, the bullet struck Ruiz in the chest while the couple's 3-year-old daughter watched on.
'They were in love.
She told the Star Tribune that Ruiz was a gun enthusiast and "dare devil" who was always 'putting a unsafe twist on everything he did'.
Monalisa Perez made YouTube videos with her boyfriend showing pranks.
"I was standing behind a tree just watching, and I couldn't take it anymore", a neighbor told KDAY about his experience watching a helicopter land in Pedro's front yard and medics race out to assist. "He had so much going for himself", she said.
Perez told investigators the shooting was captured on video.
Ruiz had set up a GoPro camera and another camera on a ladder nearby to record the stunt, according to the complaint.
She could face 10 years in prison, a $20,000 fine, or both. Her first court appearance is expected on Wednesday.
