American Warplane Shoots Down Iranian-Made Drone Over Syria

Moscow's warning on Monday to US-allied warplanes west of the Euphrates escalated the threat of a direct Russian-American confrontation in Syria, following the first USA shooting down of a fighter jet belonging to the regime since the start of the civil war six years ago. And, he says, it may be hard for the U.S.to avoid conflict in Syria. Two other times this month the US has shot down Iranian-made drones in southern Syria that were deemed to pose a threat to USA and partner forces.

Russian Federation accused the US-led coalition of "complicity with terrorism". OIR described the area as an "established combat outpost". "We are here to fight ISIS as a coalition, but if others want to fight ISIS and defeat them, then we absolutely have no problem with that".

United States central command claimed the jet had dropped bombs near the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces and had been shot down "in collective self-defense".

Australia's military has temporarily halted air missions over Syria, following the shooting down of a Syrian jet by U.S. forces.

The stated mission of the USA is to expand the presence of American troops available to train local forces to fight ISIS. Getting involved in the civil war between the Assad regime (evil though it is) and his opponents was, like most western involvements in the Middle East over the past century, not a good idea.

"There's actually a line we have with the Russians that's a de-confliction line, and that line remains open and we remain in conversation with them", Goldfein said.

The United States has also warned about gains made by Iran-backed Shiite militia along the Iraqi side of the border, which eventually linked up with forces affiliated to the Assad regime in Syria. "Assad's air force can't challenge ours".

In Syria's tangled conflict, Washington backs a coalition of rebel forces fighting both Mr Assad and Islamist militants, while Mr Assad is backed by Russia, Iran and Shiite militia. In late 2015, it extended air operations into Syria on US' request. Intelligence reports have indicated that several senior ISIS operatives have fled Raqqa and moved into the valley between the two towns.

On the other hand, a Western representative said in Beirut that there would be closed-door meetings are on holding in Amman, where the US, Jordan and Russian Federation are discussing on how to close the aggressive between the present insurgents and the Syrian government in the southern part.

U.S. officials say three top ISIS officials have been killed by the coalition around Mayadin.

"Coalition forces killed Turki Bin'ali, the self-proclaimed "Grand Mufti" or chief cleric of ISIS in an air strike May 31 in Mayadeen, Syria", the coalition said.

IS supporters went online to announce his death. He was also linked to efforts to recruit foreign fighters and launch attacks "around the world".

It further added that the USA will not be hesitant in defending its partners from any threat.
