Jazz trade with Nuggets to get No. 13 pick Donovan Mitchell

The Jazz traded the No. 24 pick and forward Trey Lyles to the Denver Nuggets for the No. 13 pick, Mitchell.

In two seasons with the Jazz Lyles was on the periphery of the Utah interior rotation, averaging 17.3 minutes per game as a rookie and 16.3 minutes per game last season.

Jazz fans are hoping that the trade for Mitchell works out as well as their last draft-night deal with Denver; in 2013 the team bought the No. 27 pick from the Nuggets to select Rudy Gobert.

Mitchell was honored on the All-ACC first team, All-ACC Defensive team, USBWA All-District IV team and NABC All-District 2 first team.

Bradley averaged 7.1 points and 5.1 rebounds as a freshman on the NCAA champion Tar Heels. Utah selected Lousiville Cardinals guard Donovan Mitchell.

Mitchell also improved his offensive game as a sophomore, as evidenced by his 15.6 points per game. He was the West Coast Conference player of the year and newcomer of the year last season after transferring from Washington. "I like to show teams what I can do, how I can play".

This is the fifth year in a row the Jazz have made at least one draft day trade.

"That's the big thing, knocking down open shots", Mitchell said.

Primarily a shooting guard, the Courier-Journal said he started at the point in certain situations in college, which could be necessary if the Jazz end up losing point guard George Hill in free agency this summer.

The No. 1 priority is to retain Hayward, who wants to win sooner rather than later.
