Kushner, embroiled in an escalating Russian Federation controversy like his father-in-law, is expected to meet Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem and Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas, the White House told The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the story.

Kushner, who has no government, political or military experience, has been charged with several roles in the Trump administration, among which is reaching a Middle East peace deal that has evaded diplomats for decades.

Israeli media reports said Jason Greenblatt, Trump's special representative for worldwide negotiations, will arrive in the region on Monday, ahead of Kushner.

Trump senior adviser Jared Kushner is traveling this week to Israel and the Palestinian Authority. Last month, news surfaced that Kushner may have discussed creating a secret communications channel between the Trump transition team and the Kremlin with Kislyak. It's likely, the official says, that Kushner will make a number of visits to the region. "It's not easy. America stands ready to assist in every way we can".

This week's meetings will be a chance for Kushner and Greenblatt to hear directly from Netanyahu and Abbas about their priorities and potential next steps, according to a White House official.

Greenblatt tweeted on Sunday night: "Excited to be traveling back to Israel and the Pal. Territories to continue the discussion about the possibility of peace", wrote Greenblatt on Twitter.

The number of settlement homes Israel began to build in the occupied West Bank rose 70 percent over the past year, the country's official bureau of statistics said Monday.

Earlier this month, Trump waived a law that requiring the U.S. to move its Israeli embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
