GOP members were practicing for the game Wednesday when a gunman opened fire at an Alexandria, Va., ballfield. Two Capitol Police officers sustained relatively minor injuries.

The FBI says Hodgkinson had been living for the past three months in his vehicle and taking showers at the YMCA in Alexandria, Virginia.

Hodgkinson's wife told media members this week that she was shocked by the actions of her estranged husband.

Suzanne Hodgkinson, who lives in Belleville, Ill., claims she had "no idea" her husband was going to shoot people at the field, according to the Belleville News-Democrat. "I can't wrap my head around it", she said, trembling as she clung to the arm of St. Clair County Deputy Richard Wagner. "I just want you all to go away and leave my neighbors in peace".

Sue Hodgkinson said she and James were married for nearly 30 years. She said she thought her husband, James Hodgkinson, had gone to the Washington area to work on tax policy.

"There's just no way that I would have guessed that this guy would be shooting at law enforcement and a congressman", said Brennwald, an attorney.

WANG: Well, she was very upset speaking to reporters who have been camped outside of her home.

Two of Hodgkinson's victims were severely wounded. He remains in critical condition from a shot to the hip.

"His condition is critical, and he will require additional operations", the hospital said. The bullet fractured bone and injured organs, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said.

Former congressional staffer Matt Mika was shot multiple times in the chest and arm and "requires assistance to breathe", according to his family.

The wife of the man accused of shooting at Republican Congressmen spoke out Thursday afternoon. With this heroic act, Griner becomes another important figure in the LGBT community, showing the community's intention to support the greater good and that heroism expands beyond just the community, as well. His aide, Zack Barth, who was shot by the Virginia assailant, walked across the field on crutches.

Hodgkinson was armed with a 7.62-caliber rifle and a 9-mm handgun. "When you have people saying, 'beat him up and I'll pay your legal fees.' When you have all of the assaults that were made on on Hillary Clinton". Sanders acknowledged Wednesday that Hodgkinson had apparently been among many volunteers on his 2016 campaign. We never interacted with him.

It appears Hodgkinson had a legal firearms owner identification card, despite numerous misdemeanor cases, including a 2006 domestic battery charge, which included aggravated discharge of firearm.

There, agents recovered a cellphone, a computer and camera that are being processed for clues related to the rampage.

Yesterday morning's baseball practice was in preparation for the Congressional Baseball Game this evening at Nationals Park in Washington - which took place as scheduled.
