The 51-year-old Republican congressman from Louisiana underwent another surgery on Saturday, the hospital treating him said, which was at least his third operation since being transported to the facility.

The suspect in the shooting at the congressional baseball practice earlier this week had a list including the names of some members of Congress on him, CBS News has confirmed.

The man who opened fire on Republican lawmakers practicing baseball had angrily railed against President Donald Trump the day before the shooting.

A source said investigators are not sure of the significance of the names and it is not clear whether this was a list of people the attacker was targeting. According to The Daily Caller, who first reported on the list, names included Rep. Mo Brooks (R-AL), Rep. Jeff Duncan (R-SC) and Rep. Trent Franks (R-AZ).

Thankfully, nobody was killed in the tragedy (with the exception of Hodgkinson), though House Majority Whip Steve Scalise remains in the hospital.

Scalise's security detail and other police officers shot and killed the assailant, James Hodgkinson of IL, who had lashed out against President Donald Trump and other Republicans over social media.

On Friday, the hospital's director of trauma, Dr. Jack Sava, called Scalise's injury a "transpelvic gunshot wound" which had "fragmented, and caused significant damage to bones, internal organs and blood vessels".

The surgeon said there were hundreds of bullet fragments in Mr Scalise's body, but "we have no intention to try and remove all the bullet fragments at this point".

Scalise "continues to show signs of improvement", the hospital said Saturday. "After discharge he will need a period of healing and rehabilitation". "I think that his risk of death right now is substantially lower than when he came in ... he was as critical as you can be when he came in". Capitol Police officer David Bailey and Texas Rep. Roger Williams were also injured during the incident.

Lobbyist Matt Mika was shot multiple times and critically injured and remained hospitalized.
