Jon Snow's Real Name Revealed

And as season seven's July premiere approaches, dedicated Reddit users think they may have discovered a key fact about the King Of The North: his birth name. Now, Empire Magazine has casually suggested that Bran Stark's psychic time travel trip has unearthed an additional detail: Jon's real name is Jaehaerys Targaryen.

What's in a name?

While this hasn't been confirmed yet in an episode, an HBO family tree revealed the lineage. The shocking news is that his real name is Jaehaerys Targaryen.

So already we know his surname is not really Jon Snow.

Could it be true?

As pointed out on Reddit, it would make sense for Lyanna Stark to name her son after the guy (if you go with the theory that she was in love with Rhaegar Targaryen, as opposed to a kidnapping victim).

Although the name tidbit is juicy, GOT fans are still craving their return to the world of Westeros.

On the show, a dying Lyanna whispers something into Ned's ear after giving birth to Jon, and though HBO didn't provide subtitles for that comment, some lip readers have taken to the internet and claimed she said the word "Jaehaerys".

And now on the /r/ASOIAF subreddit, a major spoiler just leaked that has to do with Jon Snow's real name.

In the brief preview, it also says that Bran suddenly has the power in his hands to change the entire story. "'He knows all about the White Walkers too, '" the excerpt from the page reads. At the end of Season Six, we learned that Jon Snow is actually the son of Lyanna Stark and Rhaegar Targaryen and given to Ned Stark to raise as his own-confirming the R+L=J theory fans have had for years.

One month before the release of Season 7 of Game of Thrones, was the real name of Jon Snow disclosed by mistake?

We have to admit, it seems a little odd that producers would just give away such a significant detail, but you can check out a screenshot here. Jaehaerys was the most beloved Targaryen leader who, in addition to quelling the divide between the monarchy and Faith Militant, was a dragonrider. It's believed that Snow, along with Daenerys and Tyrion, will help fulfill the "dragon has three heads" prophecy.
