Major League Baseball players allowed to have nicknames on uniforms for one weekend

Cochise College was well represented on Wednesday as the 2017 MLB Draft closed its curtain with a final day of selections. Pall had ERAs of 2.97 and 2.81 as a reliever in his first two seasons.

LHP Karl Cragie (SR) 34 RoundKargie was drafted in the 34 round (#1019 overall) by the Miami Marlins. UA was the last SEC school to have a current player drafted.

Seton Hall University had two players selected in the draft.

The First-Year Player Draft for the Major Leagues is held every year in June.

Other interesting tidbits in Mayo's research: right-handed pitchers were the most selected position players picked (472), and California was the state with the most prospects drafted overall (192). The Laguna Niguel, Calif., product hit.285 and slugged.380 with 21 RBI and 23 runs scored in 48 games. Breaux batted.356 with a.476 on-base percentage this season. Nelson punched out 13 batters in his 16 innings of work, while also posting a team-leading.193 batting average against mark. He registered three saves and tallied 13 strikeouts in 16.0 innings pitched in his second year in the Quaker bullpen.

Auburn first baseman/outfielder Daniel Robert went to the Texas Rangers with pick No. 644 in the 21st round, and Tiger right-hander pitcher Gabe Klobosits went to the Washington Nationals with pick No. 1,093 in the 36th round.

Only certain players can be drafted.

Robert and Klobosits were the third and fourth members of Auburn's team to hear their names called, joining right-hander Keegan Thompson (third round, Chicago Cubs) and center fielder Jonah Todd (sixth round, Los Angeles Angels) from Monday and Tuesday.

Long Beach State senior Riley Cooks, who finished 15th in the NCAA Division I championships heptathlon, received second team All-America honors for the scond consecutive year.
