BCCI CAC buys more time to decide on India coach

Ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy, the national cricket board had invited applications for the post of the head coach as Kumble's one-year tenure comes to an end with the ongoing eight-nation tournament in England and Wales. A former office-bearer of the cricketing body said that "According to Dalmiya, BCCI only gave members of panels a daily allowance, accommodation and a auto on days of meetings, but no remuneration".

DNA reported recently on how 10 of the current players are said to be against Kumble continuing as coach.

The Committee of Administrators will take the final call. That was a statement by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which was released to the media late on Thursday night.

After the meeting, it was decided by the CAC to revert to the BCCI, at an appropriate time.

Here is what BCCI had to say: "The Indian Express Newspaper of 11th June (today), carries a news item stating that there was a claim by the members of the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), for being compensated for their meetings held to select a head coach for the Indian Cricket Team".

Anil Kumble is set to retain as the India coach till the India tour of West Indies.

It is learnt that trio of Ganguly, Laxman and Tendulkar, who had roped in Kumble in place of Ravi Shastri are not too keen on replacing the legendary leg-spinner. It is understood that only one BCCI official, who is believed to be close to former president N. Srinivasan and is a staunch Kumble critic, is against him continuing. Since members of various other BCCI committees don't get paid, CAC can't be an exception. From feuds between the captain and the coach to Kumble unwilling to continue as coach, we saw it all. "As far as support staff and cricketers are concerned, performance should be the only criteria for giving someone a job and I think Kumble has scored on that count", Jagdale told TOI on Sunday.

"Cricket is a team game, where everybody contributes. It's a Catch-22 situation for CAC members", a BCCI official present here said. "It's a short tour so there shouldn't be any problems", said a top source. It is said that Virender Sehwag has the least chance of getting selected. In light of rumours about alleged difference in opinion between Indian team members and Kumble, the CAC was asked to look into the matter once again so as to resolve differences before the Champions Trophy.
